Romney is GOP's Best Candidate, Best Bet

by Orlando Sentinel

After three contests with three different winners, Florida's GOP voters have the chance in Tuesday's presidential primary to break the tie and turbo charge one candidate's pursuit of the nomination.

The candidate who deserves that boost is former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. His accomplishments in both the public and private sectors suggest he would be a steady and competent leader for these divisive and turbulent times.

Romney was a well-regarded Republican governor in a state dominated by Democrats. He took charge of the foundering effort to organize the 2002 Winter Olympics and made it work. And he ran hugely profitable consulting and private equity firms.

Romney's rivals have tried to turn the assets on his resume into liabilities. They've blistered him for passing a health-care-reform plan as governor. We give Romney credit for working with lawmakers in his state to solve a problem without waiting for Washington to dictate a solution, which is exactly what happened.

Romney also has been accused of killing jobs through his private equity firm, Bain Capital. Republicans should know better. Investors often push for companies to cut their payrolls to become more competitive and avoid eliminating the rest of their jobs by going out of business.

The contrast in leadership experience and style between Romney and his closest rival for the nomination, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, is striking.

Gingrich, who led Republicans to take control of the House in 1994 for the first time in decades, turned out to be far more capable in campaigning than running the chamber as speaker. Some of the toughest criticism has come from members of his own party.

Following his re-election in 1998, Gingrich resigned his seat rather than run for another term as speaker. Analysts said he didn't have the votes to keep the job. Since then, Gingrich has remained in Washington, cashing in as a "consultant" to clients like mortgage giant Freddie Mac.

Despite his decades as an insider, Gingrich has brilliantly articulated the rage many GOP voters feel against the political establishment. We admire his intellect, but when it comes to leadership, anger doesn't trump a diverse and successful record.

The other two candidates still in the race are a cut below both Romney and Gingrich in their qualifications. Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum is preoccupied with divisive social issues that would divert attention from more important national priorities. He'd get nowhere with Democrats in Congress. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul's radical anti-government agenda is a cause, not a realistic approach to governing.

Florida Republicans have two compelling reasons to vote for Mitt Romney: He's the best candidate, and he fits the late William F. Buckley's description as the most conservative candidate who can win.

Newt the Peddler

Newt denies he's an influence peddler!

Mitt Romney went for a face-to-face assault against his surging primary opponent in Monday night’s Florida debate, calling out Newt Gingrich as an “influence peddler” who had to “resign in disgrace” from the House of Representatives.

In the first minutes of the debate, Romney quickly went after Newt who routed him in last weekend’s South Carolina primary of being unscrupulous, unreliable and simply unelectable.

“I think [the election is] about leadership. And the speaker was given an opportunity to be the leader of our party in 1994. And at the end of four years, he had to resign in disgrace,” Romney said. “In the 15 years after he left the speakership, the speaker has been working as an influence peddler in Washington. And during those 15 years, I helped turn around the Olympics, helped begin a very successful turnaround in the state of Massachusetts.”

Romney kept at it throughout the first half of the debate, criticizing Gingrich for having been rebuked by his GOP colleagues in the House, earning money as an advocate for Freddie Mac and teaming up with Nancy Pelosi to talk about global warming.

Why We Created This Forum

Dear All,

We know you'll be surprised of this support forum we have created for Mitt. Actually, my wife, Estela and I are both avid followers of former Massachusett's Governor Mitt Romney since his last election campaign in 2008. We have been surfing and following the internet for daily articles written about Gov. Romney's run for the US Presidency.

From the articles we've read about him, we've been so excited and hopeful for his winning in this very important election of 2012. We've joined the chattings in the MRC and found new friends among Romney's supporters.

We learned a lot from our readings in many websites and blogs about his family, his acheivements, his faith in God, and his strong conservative standing for the Republican Party's ideology. Oftentimes, we are frustrated with how the US media and his rivals portrays him.

We know that there are many Gov. Romney's fans here outside the US who would like to express our moral support for him in his campaign. We know that we can't vote because we are non-americans, but we can likewise extend our help to the campaign by calling our relatives and friends in the US and continually posting in social networks and e-mailing them with great informative articles about Mitt.

We are pretty much surprised to know actually that many of our relatives and friends over there in the US are also leaning for Mitt.

In this connection, we would like to invite our friends out there, whether you are an American or not to come and join with us in this effort in helping Governor Romney win this election. You are free to email us at ranzelganzon@gmail.com any write-ups or links you wish to share with the people of America for our posting in the forum.

We pray for Governor Romney and his campaign staffs for their success on this upcoming election.

Yours sincerely,
Ranzel & Estela
